Straight from Germany: Travemünde - Helsinki
The Travemünde - Helsinki ferry is the only through link from Germany to Finland. Finnlines sails from the Skandinavienkai terminal to Vuosaari in eastern Helsinki. The long crossing replaces the drive through Denmark and Sweden; vehicle, passengers and cabin product have to be compared together when you look at the price.
Via Stockholm to Helsinki or Turku
From Stockholm you have two different destinations: Stockholm - Helsinki takes you overnight straight into the capital, while Stockholm - Turku is often better placed for south-west Finland and the drive on towards the Lakeland. Choose by destination region and the road distance that follows, not by the ferry price alone.
Via Kapellskär or Umeå
Kapellskär - Naantali shortens the drive to the port compared with Stockholm and lands you close to Turku. Umeå - Vaasa crosses the Kvarken in about four hours; depending on the day of the week, Wasaline schedules two to four sailings a day in both directions combined. From Umeå to Vaasa that usually means one or two crossings a day.
Through the Baltic states: Tallinn - Helsinki
If you travel up through Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, Tallinn - Helsinki is the short final leg by sea. Do not mistake the roughly two-hour crossing for the journey as a whole; count the driving, the breaks and any overnight stops separately.

Which ferry routes go directly to Finland? +
Straight from Germany there is Travemünde - Helsinki with Finnlines. Via Sweden you have Stockholm - Helsinki, Stockholm - Turku, Kapellskär - Naantali and Umeå - Vaasa. If you come through the Baltic states, you take Tallinn - Helsinki.
How long does the crossing to Finland take? +
Crossings range from about two hours on Tallinn - Helsinki through roughly four hours on Umeå - Vaasa to around 30 hours on Travemünde - Helsinki. What counts is the scheduled duration of your particular sailing in the timetable.
Can I bring a car or a motorhome? +

Can my dog come on board? +

When do ferries to Finland sail? +
Many routes run all year, but frequency varies by route, day of the week and season. So check the timetable for your date first, then availability on the matching route page.
Is there a ferry from Poland to Finland? +
No, there is no ferry between Poland and Finland. From Poland you drive overland to the nearest departure port: Travemünde to Helsinki with Finnlines in around 30 hours, or through the Baltic states to Tallinn and across to Helsinki in about two hours. Another option is the Polferries night ferry Gdańsk - Nynäshamn: scheduled departure at 18:00, arrival the next day at 12:00, so around 18 hours. Nynäshamn lies south of Stockholm; from there you carry on from Stockholm to Helsinki or Turku, or from Kapellskär to Naantali.
